This is a very refreshing drink for the summertime.  Don’t be scared away by the whiskey, you can hardly detect it.  This is a pretty light drink since there is twice as much sour as alcohol, which means you can have a refill too.

Step One: Sour Mix

I enjoy a number of cocktail recipes that use a homemade sour mix like my Tennessee Sour and Long Island Ice Tea.  It is simple to make and can keep in the refrigerator for at least a week.

Ingredients:

1-Cup Simple Syrup

1-Cup Fresh Lemon Juice

1-Cup Fresh Lime Juice

Recipe:

Squeeze lemon and lime and reserve a cup of each.  Heat a saucepan with 1 cup of water.  When the water is hot, add 1 cup of sugar.  Stir until the sugar is all dissolved, and set aside to cool.

In a glass container that can hold at least 3 cups of liquid, combine the simple syrup, lime juice, and lemon juice and stir.  Store in a covered container in the refrigerator until ready to use in a cocktail.

Part Two: Tennessee Sour

2 ounces Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey

¾ ounce Grand Marnier

¼ ounce St. Germain

4 ounces homemade sour mix

Pour whiskey into an ice-filled glass and add Grand Marnier, St. Germain, and homemade sour mix.  Stir to chill and strain into a large cocktail glass filled with ice.
