Reggae originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s it also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica. Some believe the word “reggae” used in Jamaica came from the word “streggae” or “witch”. If a girl is walking by and the guys look at her and say “Man, she’s streggae” it means she doesn’t dress well, she looks raggedy or dressed in rags. The girls would say the same about the guys also. Bob Marley claimed that the word reggae came from a Spanish term for “the King’s music”.
